Review: 5 stars

This is a book that I’ve wanted to read for a long time now. When I saw it at the used book sale I scooped it up right away. Once again I found myself hopeful that this one would live up to the hype, as a lot of books I have read lately haven’t. I’ve heard such great things about this series, so I had to give it a shot.

I could not be crazier about a book. It started off kind of slow and to be honest I almost set it down. But the slow start was what really developed the characters. When it picked up at the start of part two I found myself completely hooked. This plot is truly a masterpiece. I found myself in awe of Kristin Cashore. It not only lived up to the hype, but exceeded it. This book is as great as everyone says it is, if not better.

The length of the novel is perfect, because it takes the time to develop the characters and make you emotionally invested in them. The plot weaves through this novel and surprises you with its twists. The pacing may be a little slow in the beginning, but it works for the story.

Katana, Po and Bitterblue are characters that I grew to love. I am so happy that there is more to their stories because I am SO not ready to say goodbye to these characters. Their adventures are not over and I can not wait to see the rest of this series unfold.
