Top 5 Book Recommendation Series

This Top 5 series started back in October and I kind of lost motivation for making it every week. But it’s back! This is a series of books that I want to read that all have a common theme. Previously on the blog I have focused on witches, werewolves, thrillers, faeries and fairy tale re-tellings.

High Fantasy

The definition of high fantasy is fantasy books that are set in a completely different fictional world. I love this genre and have read many, many great books within it. A lot of times these books have amazing maps of their fantasy worlds and intricate magic systems and/or world building.

The only reason I haven’t read this book yet is because of it’s size. This book is huge, but looks amazing and has gotten rave reviews from many of my friends.

I received a review copy of the sequel to this book and so I decided to check out the first book. It has won many awards, has a main character who is described as a con artist and has what appears as an intricate magic system.

I have started to pay attention to award winning books and this is one that caught my eye. This book has won many awards for fantasy fiction along with the rest of the series. I have to see what all the literary hype is about and give this series a chance.

A lot of people have recommended this book to me when I asked for a personal recommendation based on titles that I have read. It looks a little darker, which is super up my alley, but I have yet to pick it up.

Obviously since I have read all the books about the Grishaverse this book made the list. I am late getting to this installment, but I have no doubt that Leigh Bardugo will deliver an amazing novel.

  2. The first three books are also high on my priority list! The reason I haven’t read them yet is because they are so hyped and I’m afraid not to love them..!
I’ve read the last two, and absolutely love both!

    1. The first three books (The Poppy War, The City of Brass and The Fifth Season) are actually the less popular out of the five among most of my friends, so it’s funny that those are the ones that are high on your priority list. They’re the ones I am looking forward to the most as well though. They’re the award winning ones, the ones that are a bit deeper and more complex. I can’t waiiitttt

  3. These all look great! I really want to read The Poppy War- I’ve not done it yet and everybody’s been raving about it! And I can confirm that City of Brass is excellent: do give it a look! 😀

    1. Oh that’s wonderful to hear! I actually just started The Poppy War, but The City of Brass is definitely next on my list priority wise since I have the sequel for it! I also just got a copy of The Dragon Republic, which is why I just started The Poppy War. I need to get a copy of City of Brass!

  4. This is a great selection of books. I enjoyed both The City of Brass and Nevernight, and I absolutely loved The Fifth Season. Both The Poppy War and King of Scars are on my TBR and I’m really excited to get to them. Hopefully, we both find them enjoyable!

  5. The only book I have read from the list so far is The Fifth Season. And I can’t say enough good things about it. It is one of my favorite series.
The rest, I’ve been eyeing for a while, and this list has made me rearrange my TBR sequence.

    1. After posting this I did read The Poppy War, which is probably one of my all time favorite reads ever. I’m reading City of Brass this month and probably The Fifth Season as well. That whole series has won so many awards! I hope to see your review for The Fifth Season soon!!
