Can’t Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings based on the meme Waiting on Wednesday by Breaking the Spine. In this weekly post people share a book that they’re excited about being released.
I have always loved reading these posts, looking forward at books that people can’t wait for. But I always find that I want a list and it is just one book. So I decided I would share three books that I can’t wait for. If you click on the title of the book it will take you to the book’s Goodreads page.
Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton
Publication Date: 8/6/19
One pet crow fights to save humanity from an apocalypse in this uniquely hilarious debut from a genre-bending literary author.
S.T., a domesticated crow, is a bird of simple pleasures: hanging out with his owner Big Jim, trading insults with Seattle’s wild crows (those idiots), and enjoying the finest food humankind has to offer: Cheetos ®.
Then Big Jim’s eyeball falls out of his head, and S.T. starts to feel like something isn’t quite right. His most tried-and-true remedies–from beak-delivered beer to the slobbering affection of Big Jim’s loyal but dim-witted dog, Dennis–fail to cure Big Jim’s debilitating malady. S.T. is left with no choice but to abandon his old life and venture out into a wild and frightening new world with his trusty steed Dennis, where he discovers that the neighbors are devouring each other and the local wildlife is abuzz with rumors of dangerous new predators roaming Seattle. Humanity’s extinction has seemingly arrived, and the only one determined to save it is a foul-mouthed crow whose knowledge of the world around him comes from his TV-watching education.
Hollow Kingdom is a humorous, big-hearted, and boundlessly beautiful romp through the apocalypse and the world that comes after, where even a cowardly crow can become a hero.
I received a physical ARC of this copy through a Shelf Awareness Pro sweepstakes and when I got it I was mildly interested. A story about the human apocalypse from the perspective of a domesticated crow sounded weird and kinda cool, but after reading the first chapter I know that I am going to LOVE this book and I can’t wait to read it.
The Furies by Katie Lowe
Publication Date: 10/8/19
In 1998, a sixteen-year-old girl is found dead on school property, dressed in white and posed on a swing, with no known cause of death. The novel opens with this image, as related to us by the narrator, Violet, looking back on the night it happened from the present day, before returning to relate the series of events leading up to the girl’s murder.
After an accident involving her Dad and sister, Violet joins Elm Hollow Academy, a private girls school in a quiet coastal town, which has an unpleasant history as the site of famous 17th century witch trials. Violet quickly finds herself invited to become the fourth member of an advanced study group, alongside Robin, Grace, and Alex – led by their charismatic art teacher, Annabel.
While Annabel claims her classes aren’t related to ancient rites and rituals – warning the girls off the topic, describing it as little more than mythology – the girls start to believe that magic is real, and that they can harness it. But when the body of a former member of the society – Robin’s best friend, with whom Violet shares an uncanny resemblance – is found dead on campus nine months after she disappeared, Violet begins to wonder whether she can trust her friends, teachers, or even herself.
I’ve always loved witchy books, but this one is set at an ALL GIRL’S BOARDING SCHOOL, which is a setting that I love, and looks like it includes mean girls. I was lucky enough to get a physical copy, which is absolutely gorgeous. I am SO pumped to read about this group of teenage witches. My problem is that it doesn’t come out until October, so I have to wait until closer to publication to read this beauty.
Wilder Girls by Rory Power
Publication Date: 7/9/19
It’s been eighteen months since the Raxter School for Girls was put under quarantine. Since the Tox hit and pulled Hetty’s life out from under her.
It started slow. First the teachers died one by one. Then it began to infect the students, turning their bodies strange and foreign. Now, cut off from the rest of the world and left to fend for themselves on their island home, the girls don’t dare wander outside the school’s fence, where the Tox has made the woods wild and dangerous. They wait for the cure they were promised as the Tox seeps into everything.
But when Byatt goes missing, Hetty will do anything to find her, even if it means breaking quarantine and braving the horrors that lie beyond the fence. And when she does, Hetty learns that there’s more to their story, to their life at Raxter, than she could have ever thought true.
I’ve actually had an eARC of this for a while now, but suddenly I’m seeing this book everywhere. I just started it and I am absolutely LOVING the story. I don’t read a ton of science fiction or dystopian novels, so I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this, but it is written SO well. I have been having a hard time setting it down. THIS BOOK IS ALSO SET IN AN ALL GIRLS BOARDING SCHOOL!

The furies has completely caught my eye as well. I’m hoping for an eArc of it. But I am also on a never ending quest for something that replicates the Coven arc of AHS.
I cant wait to read wilder girls shortly. It is apart of my summer Fling, or so it has now been dubbed, and Rory Power has been lovely enough to let me Q and A her via email for it. So I am dead excited!!!

AH I haven’t watched that season of American Horror Story!!!
Wilder Girls is a title that I was going to wait a little bit longer to read because it comes out in July, but it was just suddenly everywhere and I needed to check it out. I didn’t realize it was set in a boarding school!! I hope I catch your Q and A, will it be on your blog?

OMG IT IS MY FAVORITE! And ironically it is also the least gory… I mean I don’t know how much that says about anything …. it is AHS… it is still gory but nothing like other seasons LOL.. BUT I LOVE THAT SEASON… plus those damn witches keep coming back in seasons that follow which is a lot of fun.
Yes all my Q and As will be on my blog…. here… I just updated this for the 50th time LOL… https://novellives.com/2019/05/11/ready-set-go-your-kick-ass-summer-reading-guide-gomez-is-so-up-for-this/

Thanks to you and your informative blog, I’m first in line at my library for their new copy of Hollow Kingdom. You had me at ‘One pet crow fights to save humanity’.
I’ve seen several reviews of Wilder Girls, all positive. Looking forward to that one as well.

I recently finished Wilder Girls! Hollow Kingdom is on my list pretty soon, but probably a little further out because of publication.
