Top 5 Book Recommendation Series
This Top 5 series started back in October and I kind of lost motivation for making it every week. But it’s back! This is a series of books that I want to read that all have a common theme. Previously on the blog I have focused on witches, werewolves, thrillers, faeries, fairy tale re-tellings and high fantasy. I am going to try and bring this series back for every Saturday.
The schedule for July is:
7/6/19 — Books set at Boarding Schools
7/13/19 — Books about Royalty
7/20/19 — Sequels
7/27/19 — Psychological Thrillers
Rules!
- Share your top 5 books of the current topic– these can be books that you want to read, have read and loved, have read and hated, you can do it any way you want.

Boarding School Settings
So this has always been one of my favorite settings. Many of my favorite series are set in boarding schools and when I was younger I always wanted to go to one myself. Some of my favorite series set in these settings are: Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling, The Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead, Private by Kate Brian, House of Night by P.C. and Kristin Cast. I would love to hear your favorite books set at boarding school settings or books that you would like to read with boarding school settings, so please comment below so we can talk about them!
The Furies by Katie Lowe
Publication Date: 10/8/19
This book was compared to The Craft, which was a great movie. Witches and mean girls in a boarding school setting? What more could you ask for? I actually have an ARC of this one and I can’t wait to read it.
Good Girls Lie by J.T. Ellison
Publication Date: 12/31/19
A boarding school for really smart and really rich girls is always a recipe for disaster, but when a popular girl gets murdered the truth — and the lies — start to come out. AHHH!! I have an ARC of this book as well and I can’t wait to read it, unfortunately it doesn’t come out until the end of December, so I will probably wait until closer to publication to read it.
Touch of Frost by Jennifer Estep
This is the first book in the Mythos Academy series. I got the entire series as a gift a while back, but still haven’t read it yet. It’s full of mythology and magic and set at a boarding school. I can’t believe I haven’t read this yet.
The School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani
This book is technically a Middle Grade novel where the girls and boys are trained to be fairy tale heroes and villains at the School for Good and Evil. I love re-tellings and I love boarding school settings, and I actually have a copy of this. The only reason I haven’t read it yet is because I’ve had other books to read lately.
Dead School by Laura Gia West
So this book is about how after a girl dies she winds up in Dead School, a school for dead teenagers. The concept itself is incredibly interesting, so I really want to read this one.

I think Vampire Academy is the most popular book I’ve read set in a school. I recently read People Like Us, which wasn’t bad. Great list!

I’ve heard people mention that before! It’s quite an old series. People also recommended her St Clare series. I should really check out her books.

I loved school stories when I was a kid. The people in them always seemed to have more fun than I and my friends did.

I enjoy high school stories, but love boarding school stories much better. I always wanted to go to a boarding school growing up.

Me too though I suspect they weren’t as full of midnight feasts as the books suggested

Probably not, but it always sounded really interesting to live at one. I will always love reading the books with boarding school settings though.

What if I don’t have 5 books in a given category?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Just do your top books in that category. Don’t have to be books you want to read, can be books you have already read. And if you have more that’s fine too. I think getting recommendations in certain categories will be fun no matter the number! It would be a lot of fun to have you participate!!

There are so many good ones! You should join us for next week’s topic! There is something about boarding schools that have always fascinated me! I guess it’s kind of like a college campus but for high school. But for some reason it seems cooler than college to me.

Yes, I think it’ so cool to be in high school and living with your friends. I think I would have loved that, but not if I didn’t already know anyone.

In the books I have read it can go either way. I am excited for The Furies because it was compared to The Craft and seems like it will explore toxic female relationships and witchcraft. I can’t wait to read it!

I hadn’t seen it before recently. I saw that the book was compared to it so I had to watch it and it made me even more excited to read the book.
