Top 5 Books with a Road Trip I Want to Read

This Top 5 series started back in October and I kind of lost motivation for making it every week. But it’s back! This is a series of books that I want to read that all have a common theme. Previously on the blog I have focused on witches, werewolves, thrillers, faeries, fairy tale re-tellings, high fantasy and many more. I am going to try and bring this series back for every Saturday.

Road Trips

I have taken many road trips when traveling around the east coast because we rarely fly. When traveling on the road all sorts of things wind up happening and it always winds up being an adventure. I’ve read a few road trip books before that I really enjoyed, but it’s been a while since I’ve read a book about a road trip. I think it’s time to read something like that again, so I am happy to have road trips as this week’s topic.

The Geography of Lost Things by Jessica Brody

In this romantic road trip story perfect for fans of Sarah Dessen and Morgan Matson, a teen girl discovers the value of ordinary objects while learning to forgive her absent father.

After Ali’s father passes away, he leaves his one and only prized possession—a 1968 Firebird convertible—to his daughter. But Ali doesn’t plan on keeping it. I have read some of Jessica Brody’s books before and really enjoyed them, so when I saw The Geography of Lost Things I thought that I might give it a shot. This book is about a girl who goes on a trip with her ex boyfriend right after her father dies. It sounds like the trip helps her grieve a bit, but also like it might be an interesting adventure. I have a physical copy of this book, but haven’t read it and really need to get to it!

Girls on the Verge by Sharon Biggs Waller

A powerful, timely coming-of-age story about a young woman from Texas who goes on a road trip with two friends to get an abortion, from award-winning author Sharon Biggs Waller.

Camille couldn’t be having a better summer. But on the very night she learns she got into a prestigious theater program, she also finds out she’s pregnant. She definitely can’t tell her parents. And her best friend, Bea, doesn’t agree with the decision Camille has made.

Camille is forced to try to solve her problem alone . . . and the system is very much working against her. At her most vulnerable, Camille reaches out to Annabelle Ponsonby, a girl she only barely knows from the theater. Happily, Annabelle agrees to drive her wherever she needs to go. Girls on the Verge is an incredibly timely novel about a woman’s right to choose. Sharon Biggs Waller brings to life a narrative that has to continue to fight for its right to be told, and honored.

I wanted an ARC of this book so bad. I do have a copy of Unpregnant, which sounds a little similar and I talked about it here. I love reading about taboo topics and feel like abortion should be talked about more. I just hope that it’s done well and with tact.

Your Destination is on the Left by Lauren Spieller

Dessa Rhodes is a modern day nomad. Her family travels in an RV, their lives defined by state lines, exit signs, and the small communal caravan they call home. Among them is Cyrus, her best friend and long-time crush, whom she knows she can never be with. When your families are perpetually linked, it’s too dangerous to take a risk on romance.

Dessa struggles to prove to her boss—and herself—that she belongs there, but just as she finally hits her stride, her family suffers an unexpected blow. Faced with losing everything that she has worked for, Dessa has a difficult decision to make. Will she say goodbye to her nomadic lifestyle and the boy she loves? Or will she choose to never stop moving?

This book sounds absolutely fascinating. The nomadic lifestyle of a family who lives in an RV in a traveling caravan sounds so unique and fascinating. It also seems to be a coming of age story where the main character Dessa is trying to figure out what to do with the rest of her life.  This book just seems so unique and different that I am very excited for it. I have had a copy for a long time, but haven’t had time to fit it in, so hopefully I can after I get through my fall ARCs.

Vengeance Road by Erin Bowman

Revenge is worth its weight in gold.

I love books about revenge and vengeance. This book seems like a cross between a gold hunt and a revenge story. A lot of my friends have given this book high ratings and raved about it in their reviews. This is a western, which is a genre that I love watching, but have never read. It’s set in the 1800’s and my friends have said that it is a dark book with a fascinating plot.

Eve by Anna Carey

I haven’t been reading many dystopians lately and I have to admit that I really miss reading this genre. This book has the theme of survival, which is one that I absolutely love in books. Eve lives with other orphans, but winds up leaving and searching for someplace to survive. This book is available at my ebook library and I keep eyeing it, so I think I might wind up borrowing it later this year.
