Okay guys, December has been INSANE. I hope you guys can forgive me for being SUPER late on this post. I was out of town for Christmas celebrations and now hopefully I can get back on track with the blog! Happy holidays everyone! I love you all and am so grateful for the bookish community in my life.

Books Coming in 2020!

There were so many different titles I wanted to put on this list. I almost compiled a list of just sequels that I’m dying to get my hands on, but when I really thought about it I really wanted to make this list a prediction of books by unread authors that may wind up being 5 stars. I KNOW that I’m going to love the sequels I’m looking forward to, but at the end of every year I love looking back and seeing which authors I had discovered that wound up becoming favorites. So rather than share 5 old favorite series and talk about their upcoming sequels I decided I wanted to share 5 books coming out in 2020 by authors that I’ve never read and that I think could be new favorites of mine!

The King's Questioner by Nikki KatzThe King’s Questioner by Nikki Katz

Publication Date: January 14th, 2020

From the author of ‘The Midnight Dance’ comes an epic YA fantasy featuring royal drama, dark magic, and a secret that could topple a kingdom.

Kalen has been cursed with a gift: he’s a mental picklock, able to access a person’s memories and secrets by touch. His skills make him the perfect questioner to the king, and he spends his days interrogating prisoners of the crown.

But when Kalen’s estranged childhood friend, Prince Cirrus, falls into a sudden coma, the king begs Kalen to intervene. By accessing Cirrus’ mind, Kalen saves his life—and uncovers a terrifying secret. The prince has a sister, banished long ago, and she is the key to the destruction or survival of the kingdom.

With the help of Cirrus and a silver-haired thief named Luna, Kalen must find the princess and bring her home. Or risk death at the hands of his king.

Okay, let’s be real. You’ve probably already heard me talk about this book. Honestly at this point I have such high hopes for this book that I’m TERRIFIED to actually read it. I just love the ideas behind this book and I am hopeful that it won’t let me down…

The Notorious Virtues by Alwyn HamiltonThe Notorious Virtues by Alwyn Hamilton

Publication Date: May 5th, 2020

Bestselling Rebel of the Sands author Alwyn Hamilton is back with a glittering thriller about a glamorous media darling, a surprise heiress, and the magical competition of a lifetime.

At sixteen, Honora “Nora” Holtzfall is the daughter of the most powerful heiress in all of Walstad. Her family controls all the money–and all the magic–in the entire country. But despite being the center of attention, Nora has always felt like an outsider. When her mother is found dead in an alley, the family throne and fortune are suddenly up for grabs, and Nora will be pitted against her cousins in the Veritaz, the ultimate magical competition for power that determines the one family heir.

But there’s a surprise contestant this time: Lotte, the illegitimate daughter of Nora’s aunt. When Lotte’s absent mother retrieves her from the rural convent she’d abandoned her to, Lotte goes from being an orphan to surrounded by family. Unfortunately, most of them want her dead.

And soon, Nora discovers that her mother’s death wasn’t random–it was murder. And the only person she can trust to uncover the truth of what happened is a rakish young reporter who despises everything Nora and her family stand for.

With everyone against her, Lotte’s last hope is hunting for the identity of her father. But the dangerous competition–and her feelings for Theo, one of the Holtzfalls’ sworn protectors–turns her world upside down.

Incredible tests, impossible choices and deadly odds await both girls. But there can only be one winner

A book about money, magic, deception and power that also happens to be by an author that I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about…. well sign me right up! I don’t know what it is about this book, but something tells me that this will be a 5 star read and I am going to trust my gut feeling about this book.

of silver and shadowOf Silver and Shadow by Jennifer Gruenke

Publication Date: May 26th, 2020

Ren Kolins is a silver wielder—a dangerous thing to be in the kingdom of Erdis, where magic has been outlawed for a century. Ren is just trying to survive, sticking to a life of petty thievery, card games, and pit fighting to get by. But when a wealthy rebel leader discovers her secret, he offers her a fortune to join his revolution. The caveat: she won’t see a single coin until they overthrow the King.

Behind the castle walls, a brutal group of warriors known as the King’s Children is engaged in a competition: the first to find the rebel leader will be made King’s Fang, the right hand of the King of Erdis. And Adley Farre is hunting down the rebels one by one, torturing her way to Ren and the rebel leader, and the coveted King’s Fang title.

But time is running out for all of them, including the youngest Prince of Erdis, who finds himself pulled into the rebellion. Political tensions have reached a boiling point, and Ren and the rebels must take the throne before war breaks out.

Honestly, this book wasn’t even on my radar until some of my blogging friends started talking about it. From reviews that I’ve seen it appears to be a relatively dark fantasy that has a cool magic system… two things that I absolutely adore. I’m so grateful for the blogging community because if not for my blogging friends this book might not have wound up on my radar.

Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles.jpgWhere Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles

Publication Date: June 2nd, 2020

In a city covered in ice and ruin, a group of magicians face off in a daring game of magical feats to find the next headliner of the Conquering Circus, only to find themselves under the threat of an unseen danger striking behind the scenes.

As each act becomes more and more risky and the number of missing magicians piles up, three are forced to reckon with their secrets before the darkness comes for them next.

The Star: Kallia, a powerful showgirl out to prove she’s the best no matter the cost

The Master: Jack, the enigmatic keeper of the club, and more than one lie told

The Magician: Demarco, the brooding judge with a dark past he can no longer hide

Where Dreams Descend is the startling and romantic first book in Janella Angeles’ debut Kingdom of Cards fantasy duology where magic is both celebrated and feared, and no heart is left unscathed.

This book sounds like a magical circus that has a found family cast. This book sounds like so much fun and I want it badly. I have been stalking this title way before it ever had a cover and I think it might wind up being a huge hit.

The Kinder Poison by Natalie MaeThe Kinder Poison by Natalie Mae

Publication Date: June 16th, 2020

Perfect for fans of Victoria Aveyard and Holly Black, this enthralling fantasy adventure follows a teenage girl chosen to be the human sacrifice in a deadly game between three heirs who will do anything for the crown.

In the kingdom of Orkena, Zahru has long dreamed of having the kinds of adventures she’s only ever heard about in travelers’ stories. But as a lowly Whisperer with the power to commune with animals, she knows her place is serving in one of the many royal stables, from now until her magic runs dry.

All that changes when the ailing ruler invokes an ancient tradition known as the Crossing. It’s a death-defying race across the desert, in which the first to finish—and take the life of a human sacrifice at the journey’s end—will ascend to the throne and be granted unparalleled abilities.

As preparations and celebrations for the Crossing ramp up, Zahru decides to change her fate if just for a night, by sneaking into the palace for a taste of the revelry. But the minor indiscretion turns into a deadly mistake when an encounter with a charming stranger lands her in the middle of a feud between the heirs—and she is ultimately forced to become the Crossing’s human sacrifice. Zahru is left with only one hope for survival: somehow figuring out how to overcome the most powerful people in the world.

As soon as I saw this cover I was intrigued, but it’s the synopsis of this book is what has my hopes high for this one. I love books that are set in the desert, because they tend to have survival themes. This book doesn’t come out for about 6 months, but I really think that The Kinder Poison could become a favorite of mine.

  2. I haven’t heard of any of these books before. I feel out of the soon-to-be-published book loop. I do love the covers on some fo them though, yes I am a judge a book by the cover kind of person, and the blurbs sound pretty interesting. I might have to add a few of these to my TBR list.

    1. Well I basically stalk upcoming releases because I want ARCs and I’m always on the hunt for a great book. And I totally judge books by their covers! It’s their main marketing! If the cover isnt good then I feel like the book might suck too. Glad I could help you find a few books to add to your TBR

  3. Actually, the first book that’s being published in 2020 that I read is already a favorite – “Lady Clementine” by Marie Benedict – a fictional book about Clementine Churchill! Amazing. I’ll be publishing my review on Friday.
