Looking Ahead… January Releases

Looking Ahead Devouring Books Banner.pngThis is a post that I do at the end of every month where I share the books I am looking forward to in the next month. I am always looking for books to add to my TBR so I hope to hear about what books you are looking forward to in the coming month in the comments.

Looking Ahead … January Releases

I have been looking forward to 2020 for a while now because there are so many great books coming out this year! I took a bit of time away from reading ARCs in the last month or two and now I am so thrilled to get back to reading all of the ARCs that I have been eyeing for a while!

Check out the titles that I am excited for that come out this month. Make sure to comment below if you have read any of these or want to read any of these titles so we can discuss them!

Physical ARCs

Big Lies in a Small Town by Diane Chamberlain.jpgBig Lies in a Small Town by Diane Chamberlain

Publication Date: January 14th, 2020

This is another title that I wouldn’t normally pick up, but I LOVED The Dream Daughter by Diane Chamberlain, so when I got an unsolicited ARC of her latest book I was pretty excited. I have no idea if this book will make me as emotional as The Dream Daughter did, but I don’t think I’ll be passing this one by.

How Quickly She Disappears by Raymond Fleischmann.jpg

How Quickly She Disappears by Raymond Fleischmann

Publication Date: January 14th, 2020

This is an unsolicited ARC that showed up on my doorstep. I love a good thriller when I need a change of pace, so I hope that I enjoy this one.

Blood Countess by Lana Popovic.jpg

Blood Countess by Lana Popovic

Publication Date: January 28th, 2020

This book is supposed to be pretty dark and while I don’t read many historical fiction books, this one caught my interest. I don’t really know what to expect from this book, but I hope that I love it.

Diamond City by Francesca Flores

Publication Date: January 28th, 2020

I had super high hopes for this book, but I actually wound up setting it aside shortly after starting it because I just wasn’t getting into it. I am going to give it another chance, but my expectations have been lowered significantly.

The God Game by Danny Tobey.jpg

The God Game by Danny Tobey

Publication Date: January 7th, 2020

I received an unsolicited ARC of this book and it’s probably one of the prettiest ARCs I’ve ever see

n. The blurb really enticed me and despite the fact that I don’t read a lot of science fiction I really want to read this book!

American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins.jpg

American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins

Publication Date: January 28th, 2020

I know practically nothing about this book, but it’s been getting really high praise and I’ve been seeing it everywhere lately. I got an unsolicited copy and while it’s totally not something I would normally pick up the fact that every single review I’ve seen so far is 5 stars makes me want to check it out.

eARCs

Dark and Deepest Red by Anna Marie McLemore

Dark and Deepest Red by Anna-Marie McLemore

Publication Date: January 14th, 2020

The main reason I picked up an ARC of this book is because I really wanted a copy of the author’s last book Blanca & Roja. My friends who have read her previous books are absolutely obsessed with her, so when I saw that she wrote a retelling of Hans Christian Anderson’s The Red Shoes I grabbed at the opportunity to give Anna-Marie McLemore’s writing a chance.

This book sounds like a bit of a dystopian about how social media can take a dangerous turn. The blurb had me mildly intrigued, but more than that it’s the reviews that put this book on my list. I keep seeing this book everywhere and I want to know if it’s really as great as the reviews make it sound.

Infinity Son by Adam Silvera.jpgInfinity Son by Adam Silvera

Publication Date: January 14th, 2020

I picked up a copy of this book because a dear friend of mine Susan @ Novel Lives said that I have to check out Adam Silvera’s books. Her recommendations always lead to great bookish discoveries, so I am excited to check out an author who is a favorite of hers in hopes that he might become a favorite of mine as well.

Lady Hotspur by Tessa Gratton.jpg

Lady Hotspur by Tessa Gratton

Publication Date: January 7th, 2020

Honestly I was really excited for this book, but the negative reviews that I keep seeing are really making me regret picking up an ARC. All of my friends who have read this book have given it 3 stars or less, or worse they DNFed this book. Having previously enjoyed one of Tessa Gratton’s novels I still want to give this book a chance.

Woven in Moonlight by Isabel Ibanez.jpg

Woven in Moonlight by Isabel Ibanez

Publication Date: January 7th, 2020

I am really excited for this book. The plot sounds fascinating, but it’s the writing that I’ve heard amazing things about. The world building is supposed to be phenomenal and I love that it’s inspired by Bolivian politics.

Seven Deadly Shadows by Courtney Alameda and Valynne Maetani

Seven Deadly Shadows by Courtney Alameda

Publication Date: January 28th, 2020

I love fantasy novels that are inspired by other cultures and this is one that I have high hopes for. It sounds dark and fascinating. The description reminds me of Death Note, which I really enjoyed watching. Japanese myths and culture always has fascinated me so I hope to get a taste of it when reading this novel.

Rogue Princess by BR Myers.jpg

Rogue Princess by B.R. Myers

Publication Date: January 21st, 2020

I don’t read as much science fiction as I used to, but this sci-fi retelling of Cinderella caught my eye. I picked this up thinking that it would be a fun quick read without many expectations, so I guess we will see if I wind up liking this one.

Dreamland by Nancy Bilyeau.jpg

Dreamland by Nancy Bilyeau

Publication Date: January 16th, 2020

Dreamland is set at Coney Island and the setting alone would have me interested in this one, but add rich people and their secrets and a plot that sounds suspenseful and it seems like a really fun read.

The Bard's Blade by Brian D Anderson.jpg

The Bard’s Blade by Brian D Anderson

Publication Date: January 28th, 2020

This high fantasy looks SO up my alley. I’m DYING to read this one. All of my friends have given it really high ratings and after re-reading the blurb this book has risen to the top of my TBR.

One of Us is Next by Karen M McManus

Publication Date: January 7th, 2020

This sequel is one I’ve been anticipating for a LONG time. I should be receiving a finished copy for review and I expect that I will tear right through it.

Three Things I Know Are True by Betty Culley.jpg

Three Things I Know Are True by Betty Culley

Publication Date: January 7th, 2020

This looks like a really powerful book about grief. This tearjerker is on my wish list. It has been a while since I have read a book that is written in verse, but this one looks like it tackles some deep topics and might really tug at my heart.

Nameless Queen by Rebecca McLaughlin.jpg

Publication Date: January 7th, 2020

I have been stalking this title since the moment I heard about it. While I didn’t get my hands on an ARC, I would still love to read it.

Have Read

The King's Questioner by Nikki Katz.jpg

The King’s Questioner by Nikki Katz

Publication Date: January 14th, 2020

I recently finished this book. It was the book I was most excited for this month and while I did enjoy reading it it wasn’t the 5 star read that I hoped it would be.

A Queen in Hiding by Sarah Kozloff.jpg

A Queen in Hiding by Sarah Kozloff

Publication Date: January 21st, 2020

I read this book recently and I found that I really enjoyed it. I am excited for more of the story and really happy that each installment will come out a month apart so I don’t have to wait long to read the next book. Full review to come soon!
