Can't Wait Wednesday

Can’t Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings based on the meme Waiting on Wednesday by Breaking the Spine. In this weekly post people share a book that they’re excited about being released.

I have always loved reading these posts, looking forward at books that people can’t wait for. But I always find that I want a list and it is just one book. So I decided I would share three upcoming books that I can’t wait for. If you click on the title of the book it will take you to the book’s Goodreads page.

Star Daughter by Shveta ThakrarStar Daughter by Shveta Thakrar

Publication Date: August 11th, 2020

This gorgeously imagined YA debut blends shades of Neil Gaiman’s Stardust and a breathtaking landscape of Hindu mythology into a radiant contemporary fantasy.

The daughter of a star and a mortal, Sheetal is used to keeping secrets. Pretending to be “normal.” But when an accidental flare of her starfire puts her human father in the hospital, Sheetal needs a full star’s help to heal him. A star like her mother, who returned to the sky long ago.

Sheetal’s quest to save her father will take her to a celestial court of shining wonders and dark shadows, where she must take the stage as her family’s champion in a competition to decide the next ruling house of the heavens–and win, or risk never returning to Earth at all.

Brimming with celestial intrigue, this sparkling YA debut is perfect for fans of Roshani Chokshi and Laini Taylor.

Okay so I’ve had a review copy of this for a while now and I wasn’t really excited about it until more recently. I love a book that is inspired by mythology, but it’s the reviews that have me excited for this one. I’ve heard that the prose is lyrical and fans of Laini Taylor will like this one. I’m a huge Laini Taylor fan, so obviously that is a huge selling point for me.

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn BarnesThe Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Publication Date: September 29th, 2020

A Cinderella story with deadly stakes and thrilling twists, perfect for fans of One of Us is Lying and Knives Out.

Avery Grambs has a plan for a better future: survive high school, win a scholarship, and get out. But her fortunes change in an instant when billionaire Tobias Hawthorne dies and leaves Avery virtually his entire fortune. The catch? Avery has no idea why–or even who Tobias Hawthorne is. To receive her inheritance, Avery must move into sprawling, secret passage-filled Hawthorne House, where every room bears the old man’s touch–and his love of puzzles, riddles, and codes.

Unfortunately for Avery, Hawthorne House is also occupied by the family that Tobias Hawthorne just dispossessed. This includes the four Hawthorne grandsons: dangerous, magnetic, brilliant boys who grew up with every expectation that one day, they would inherit billions. Heir apparent Grayson Hawthorne is convinced that Avery must be a con-woman, and he’s determined to take her down. His brother, Jameson, views her as their grandfather’s last hurrah: a twisted riddle, a puzzle to be solved. Caught in a world of wealth and privilege, with danger around every turn, Avery will have to play the game herself just to survive.

I am a HUGE Jennifer Lynn Barnes fan and I’ve read a bunch of her books. I would probably want this no matter what it was about, but the blurb has me super excited. I have read several books about characters who have to do something to receive an inheritance and every one of them have been really great. The early reviews are all really great, so I hope that I can get my hands on an ARC of this book!

The Cousins by Karen M McManusThe Cousins by Karen M McManus

Publication Date: December 1st, 2020

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of One of Us Is Lying comes your next obsession. You’ll never feel the same about family again.

Milly, Aubrey, and Jonah Story are cousins, but they barely know each another, and they’ve never even met their grandmother. Rich and reclusive, she disinherited their parents before they were born. So when they each receive a letter inviting them to work at her island resort for the summer, they’re surprised . . . and curious.

Their parents are all clear on one point–not going is not an option. This could be the opportunity to get back into Grandmother’s good graces. But when the cousins arrive on the island, it’s immediately clear that she has different plans for them. And the longer they stay, the more they realize how mysterious–and dark–their family’s past is.

The entire Story family has secrets. Whatever pulled them apart years ago isn’t over–and this summer, the cousins will learn everything.

Okay so far the only book I’ve read of Karen M McManus is One of Us is Lying, (check out my review) but it was really good. I just heard that she’s coming out with a new book and I’m pretty excited. One of Us is Lying was the type of book that you just tear right through, so I’m hoping that this will be similar.
