Wishlist!

My bookish wishlist is never ending! My birthday was yesterday and I got an Amazon gift card, so I’m thinking of what I want to buy! I have a giant collection of books that are taking up tons of space, so lately I’ve been getting ebooks rather than hard copies. I am always looking for books to add to my TBR or books that make me excited. This post could be hundreds of books long and it was hard to only pick five books! I decided to focus on books that were standalones or the first in a series, rather than sequels that I’m excited for. I also tried to think of which books I’m currently excited about that I don’t own. This was a really hard list for me to make and I am sure I could have spent days going through my TBR for this one!

Here is my current Amazon wishlist!

A Deadly Education by Naomi NovikA Deadly Education by Naomi Novik

Lesson One of the Scholomance: Learning has never been this deadly.

A Deadly Education is set at Scholomance, a school for the magically gifted where failure means certain death (for real) — until one girl, El, begins to unlock its many secrets.

There are no teachers, no holidays, and no friendships, save strategic ones. Survival is more important than any letter grade, for the school won’t allow its students to leave until they graduate… or die! The rules are deceptively simple: Don’t walk the halls alone. And beware of the monsters who lurk everywhere.

El is uniquely prepared for the school’s dangers. She may be without allies, but she possesses a dark power strong enough to level mountains and wipe out millions. It would be easy enough for El to defeat the monsters that prowl the school. The problem? Her powerful dark magic might also kill all the other students.

All of Naomi Novik’s books get amazing praise and look really good, but I am especially interested in her latest release. It’s a YA paranormal book with a boarding school setting, which is exactly the type of book that I’ve LOVED reading lately. The early reviews say that the book is humorous and the main character is fantastic. I keep eyeing this book at work and might pick up a physical copy. I am super excited for this one!

Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri ManiscalcoKingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco

Publication Date: October 27th, 2020

From the #1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Stalking Jack the Ripper series comes a new blockbuster series…

Two sisters.

One brutal murder.

A quest for vengeance that will unleash Hell itself…

And an intoxicating romance.

Emilia and her twin sister Vittoria are streghe – witches who live secretly among humans, avoiding notice and persecution. One night, Vittoria misses dinner service at the family’s renowned Sicilian restaurant. Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin…desecrated beyond belief. Devastated, Emilia sets out to find her sister’s killer and to seek vengeance at any cost-even if it means using dark magic that’s been long forbidden.

Then Emilia meets Wrath, one of the Wicked-princes of Hell she has been warned against in tales since she was a child. Wrath claims to be on Emilia’s side, tasked by his master with solving the series of women’s murders on the island. But when it comes to the Wicked, nothing is as it seems…

I really want a copy of this book! I haven’t read Kerri Maniscalco’s Stalking Jack the Ripper series, but tons of my friends loved it. This book is much more my type of read than her previous series and looks like a perfect fall read. I love witchy books with a hint of mystery.

Jade City by Fonda LeeJade City by Fonda Lee

JADE CITY is a gripping Godfather-esque saga of intergenerational blood feuds, vicious politics, magic, and kungfu.

The Kaul family is one of two crime syndicates that control the island of Kekon. It’s the only place in the world that produces rare magical jade, which grants those with the right training and heritage superhuman abilities.
The Green Bone clans of honorable jade-wearing warriors once protected the island from foreign invasion–but nowadays, in a bustling post-war metropolis full of fast cars and foreign money, Green Bone families like the Kauls are primarily involved in commerce, construction, and the everyday upkeep of the districts under their protection.
When the simmering tension between the Kauls and their greatest rivals erupts into open violence in the streets, the outcome of this clan war will determine the fate of all Green Bones and the future of Kekon itself.

I need to get my hands on a copy of this book! Ever since I saw this book compared to The Poppy War I’ve wanted a copy of it. Jade City has magic and is an own voices fantasy novel with inspiration from Asia. A story about a crime syndicate in a magical world, I mean really, who could resist that?

The Girls I've Been by Tess SharpeThe Girls I’ve Been by Tess Sharpe

Publication Date: January 26th, 2020

A slick, twisty YA page-turner about the daughter of a con artist who is taken hostage in a bank heist.

Nora O’Malley’s been a lot of girls. As the daughter of a con-artist who targets criminal men, she grew up as her mother’s protégé. But when mom fell for the mark instead of conning him, Nora pulled the ultimate con: escape.

For five years Nora’s been playing at normal. But she needs to dust off the skills she ditched because she has three problems:

#1: Her ex walked in on her with her girlfriend. Even though they’re all friends, Wes didn’t know about her and Iris.

#2: The morning after Wes finds them kissing, they all have to meet to deposit the fundraiser money they raised at the bank. It’s a nightmare that goes from awkward to deadly, because:

#3: Right after they enter bank, two guys start robbing it.

The bank robbers may be trouble, but Nora’s something else entirely. They have no idea who they’re really holding hostage…

I’ve loved books about con artists since I was in middle school and discovered Ally Carter. There is something so addicting about these types of books and I am really looking forward to this one. I’m hoping that I can get my hands on an ARC because I don’t want to have to wait until January to read this one!

A Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica CluessA Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica Cluess

I am Henrietta Howel. The first female sorcerer. The prophesied one. Or am I?

Henrietta Howel can burst into flames. When she is brought to London to train with Her Majesty’s sorcerers, she meets her fellow sorcerer trainees, young men eager to test her powers and her heart. One will challenge her. One will fight for her. One will betray her. As Henrietta discovers the secrets hiding behind the glamour of sorcerer life, she begins to doubt that she’s the true prophesied one. With battle looming, how much will she risk to save the city–and the one she loves?

This book has actually been on my TBR for several years now, but I got excited for it after reading House of Dragons and learning that the author also wrote this series. That book was absolutely incredible and I tore through it really quickly, this book sounds incredible as well and I’ve really been needing a good YA fantasy series to binge read. I just hope that I love this book as much as I did House of Dragons!

    1. Why is everyone calling it Jade War? I thought the title was Jade City lol I’m so confused. You’re like the third person to refer to it as Jade War!

Thank you for the belated birthday wishes! I love that my birthday is the week before Halloween. This has always been my favorite time of year and I can celebrate by doing corn mazes and fall things!!
