Can’t Wait Wednesday — 9/22/21

Can’t Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings based on the meme Waiting on Wednesday by Breaking the Spine. In this weekly post people share a book that they’re excited about being released.

I have always loved reading these posts, looking forward at books that people can’t wait for. But I always find that I want a list and it is just one book. So I decided I would share three upcoming books that I can’t wait for. If you click on the title of the book it will take you to the book’s Goodreads page.

The Bone Ships Wake by R.J. Barker

Publication Date: September 28th, 2021

Purchase on Amazon!

Discover a brilliantly imagined epic fantasy of honor, glory, and warfare in this action-packed conclusion to the David Gemmell Award-nominated trilogy.

Joron Twiner’s dreams of freedom lay shattered. His Shipwife is gone and all he has left is revenge. Leading the black fleet from the deck of Tide Child, he takes every opportunity to hurt the Hundred Isles he is given. But his time is limited.

His fleet is shrinking, the Keyshan’s Rot is running through his body, and he hiding from a prophecy that says he and the avian sorcerer, the Windseer will end the entire world.

But the Sea Dragons have returned, a miracle in itself, and who is to say that if you can have one miracle, there cannot be another?

I’ve already read this book and guys, you aren’t ready. This trilogy has become one of my all time favorite series ever. This book reminded me why I love fantasy books so much. Reading this book felt like coming home. I can’t wait for this book to hit the shelves and to share my review with you all next week!

Lakesedge by Lyndall Clipstone

Publication Date: September 28th, 2021

Purchase on Amazon!

A lush gothic fantasy about monsters and magic, set on the banks of a cursed lake. Perfect for fans of Naomi Novik and Brigid Kemmerer.

There are monsters in the world.

When Violeta Graceling arrives at haunted Lakesedge estate, she expects to find a monster. She knows the terrifying rumors about Rowan Sylvanan, who drowned his entire family when he was a boy. But neither the estate nor the monster are what they seem.

There are monsters in the woods.

As Leta falls for Rowan, she discovers he is bound to the Lord Under, the sinister death god lurking in the black waters of the lake. A creature to whom Leta is inexplicably drawn…

There’s a monster in the shadows, and now it knows my name.

Now, to save Rowan—and herself—Leta must confront the darkness in her past, including unraveling the mystery of her connection to the Lord Under.

This was totally a book that I requested because of the cover. But I am also super excited for it because I love southern gothic vibes. All of the early reviews are absolutely gushing, so I can’t wait to get to this one! I am on the blog tour for Lakesedge, so watch out for my post on October 3rd!

Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo

Publication Date: September 28th, 2021

Purchase on Amazon!

Lee Mandelo’s debut Summer Sons is a sweltering, queer Southern Gothic that crosses Appalachian street racing with academic intrigue, all haunted by hungry ghost.

Andrew and Eddie did everything together, best friends bonded more deeply than brothers, until Eddie left Andrew behind to start his graduate program at Vanderbilt. Six months later, only days before Andrew was to join him in Nashville, Eddie dies of an apparent suicide. He leaves Andrew a horrible inheritance: a roommate he doesn’t know, friends he never asked for, and a gruesome phantom that hungers for him.

As Andrew searches for the truth of Eddie’s death, he uncovers the lies and secrets left behind by the person he trusted most, discovering a family history soaked in blood and death. Whirling between the backstabbing academic world where Eddie spent his days and the circle of hot boys, fast cars, and hard drugs that ruled Eddie’s nights, the walls Andrew has built against the world begin to crumble, letting in the phantom that hungers to possess him.

This is another book that I requested because of the cover. What can I say, I love gothic books. Seriously, that cover is gorgeous! Actually there are quite a few upcoming books on my TBR with skeletal hands on the cover. This is a southern gothic horror with a mystery as well. The reviews I’ve read make it sound like the perfect book for fall and I literally can not wait!

  1. I was definitely not read for The Bone Ship’s Wake! I’m certain I’m still dead after reading it and nothing I read can ever destroy me as much as that one did. Such a fantastic trilogy! It’s amazing how it made me so emotionally involved. Looking forward to your review!
