Can’t Wait Wednesday — 8/21/19

Can’t Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings based on the meme Waiting on Wednesday by Breaking the Spine. In this weekly post people share a book that they’re excited about being released.

I have always loved reading these posts, looking forward at books that people can’t wait for. But I always find that I want a list and it is just one book. So I decided I would share three books that I can’t wait for. If you click on the title of the book it will take you to the book’s Goodreads page.

The Girl the Sea Gave Back by Adrienne Young.jpgThe Girl the Sea Gave Back by Adrienne Young

Publication Date: September 3rd, 2019

The new gut-wrenching epic from the New York Times bestselling author of Sky in the Deep.

For as long as she can remember, Tova has lived among the Svell, the people who found her washed ashore as a child and use her for her gift as a Truthtongue. Her own home and clan are long-faded memories, but the sacred symbols and staves inked over every inch of her skin mark her as one who can cast the rune stones and see into the future. She has found a fragile place among those who fear her, but when two clans to the east bury their age-old blood feud and join together as one, her world is dangerously close to collapse.

For the first time in generations, the leaders of the Svell are divided. Should they maintain peace or go to war with the allied clans to protect their newfound power? And when their chieftain looks to Tova to cast the stones, she sets into motion a series of events that will not only change the landscape of the mainland forever but will give her something she believed she could never have again—a home.

I can’t believe that I actually haven’t featured this book on here already! Last year when The Sky in the Deep was announced I wanted an ARC so badly. I couldn’t get one, but when I heard that The Girl the Sea Gave Back wasn’t a sequel, but a spin off I was dying to get my hands on a copy. I actually just finished it and I really enjoyed it! I really want to read The Sky in the Deep now!

Unpregnant by Jenni Hendriks and Ted Caplan.jpgUnpregnant by Jenni Hendriks and Ted Caplan

Publication Date: September 10th, 2019

Seventeen-year-old Veronica Clarke never thought she would wish she’d failed a test until she finds herself holding a thick piece of plastic in her hands and staring at two solid pink lines. Even the most consistent use of condoms won’t prevent pregnancy when your boyfriend secretly pokes holes in them to keep you from going out-of-state for college.

Veronica needs an abortion, but the closest place she can legally get one is over nine hundred miles away—and Veronica doesn’t have a car. Too ashamed to ask her friends or family for help, Veronica turns to the one person she believes won’t judge her: Bailey Butler, Jefferson High’s own little black cloud of anger and snark—and Veronica’s ex-best friend. Once on the road, Veronica quickly remembers nothing with Bailey is ever simple and that means two days of stolen cars, shotguns, crazed ex-boyfriends, truck stop strippers with pro-life agendas, and a limo driver named Bob. But the pain and betrayal of their broken friendship can’t be outrun. When their fighting leads to a brutal moment of truth, Bailey abandons Veronica. Now Veronica must risk everything in order to repair the hurt she’s caused.

I have read plenty of books about teenage pregnancy, but haven’t read ANY books about abortion. It’s one of those taboo subjects that no one talks about, but I think that it’s important to talk about and should be written about as well! I am really excited to read this book, but I am a little worried that the subject might not be given enough care and tact like a recent read of mine that dealt with tough topics. I am hopeful that this book is written well, but also written with compassion and tact.

The Never Tilting World by Rin Chupeco.jpgThe Never Tilting World by Rin Chupeco

Publication Date: October 15th, 2019

Frozen meets Mad Max in this epic teen fantasy duology bursting with star-crossed romance, immortal heroines, and elemental magic, perfect for fans of Furyborn.

Generations of twin goddesses have long ruled Aeon. But seventeen years ago, one sister’s betrayal defied an ancient prophecy and split their world in two. The planet ceased to spin, and a Great Abyss now divides two realms: one cloaked in perpetual night, the other scorched by an unrelenting sun.

While one sister rules Aranth—a frozen city surrounded by a storm-wracked sea —her twin inhabits the sand-locked Golden City. Each goddess has raised a daughter, and each keeps her own secrets about her sister’s betrayal.

But when shadowy forces begin to call their daughters, Odessa and Haidee, back to the site of the Breaking, the two young goddesses —along with a powerful healer from Aranth, and a mouthy desert scavenger —set out on separate journeys across treacherous wastelands, desperate to heal their broken world. No matter the sacrifice it demands.

I haven’t read any of Rin Chupeco’s books, but they are all on my TBR. This one sounds really amazing and I am so excited that I have an eARC. This is one of my Fall ARCs that I haven’t heard a ton about, but I think it might wind up being amazing. I have heard nothing but good things about Rin Chupeco’s writing and really hope that I enjoy it because I also have an eARC of her 2020 title Wicked As You Wish.

Let’s Chat!

What books can you not wait for? Are you excited for the books I listed? Are you going to add any of these to your TBR? Have you read any of them yet? Have you read any other titles that any of these authors have written? Make sure to comment so we can talk about titles we can’t wait to read!

    1. Oh awesome! I didn’t know you were also reading this one. I’m currently reading Tiger Queen which is WAY better than I anticipated because of the cover. But I am excited for Unpregnant. I can’t wait to read it and then see your review after!

      1. Yeah I just put up the post yesterday. Tiger Queen and Memory Thief are coming up soon but not yet. The boy is busy this weekend so I might get through half a dozen books. -_-

      2. Yeah with everything going on I’ve become a mood reader and I’m ahead so I need gideon the Ninth first. They come out the same day and then 10th girl even though that’s the end of the month. So yeah that’s gonna have to wait.

      3. 10th Girl is waiting to the end of the month for me too. As well as Kingdom of Souls and Only Ashes Remain. Well.. I guess maybe I should read one of those sooner. I still need to fill August with reviews though and those are all on blog tours in September

      4. For the first week of September I’ve gotta read 3 books. So I’ve gotta at least start one of them ahead of time. I’ve gotta see when my interview with the author for Tenth is so I know when I have to have the book read by. My next read will be something that’s due the first week of September bc I’ve got reviews for next week once I’m done with my current read.

      5. Yeah that should help. I need to write my review for Tiger Queen already. Lately I haven’t wanted to write reviews. I’ve just wanted to read! But hey… my mood reading got me ahead for fall. I wound up reading a bunch of titles that didn’t come out until October and September. But now I’ve had to read only recent releases bc I was ahead, and now I’m not again.

      6. That’s funny I’ve had the same issue
My last couple reviews havent been very good (not because the books were meh I just didn’t think they were my best reviews) because I havent felt like writing them.

      7. Today’s reading of GW is the best I’ve felt in a while although grammatically I’m afraid to reread it as it is long. So maybe that will help. I probably won’t do another till Thursday. So maybe that will help.

  1. UNpregnant seems really cool. I haven’t heard about it before but I agree with you that abortion is still a taboo and I think more people should talk about it
