As for all books with a lot of hype, there is always a fear that they won’t live up to my expectations. Well, A Court of Thorns and Roses didn’t live up to my expectations at all. It was incredibly slow moving and the whole book really dragged for me. I was incredibly disappointed with this book. I nearly put it down so many times, but eventually I did finish it.
The thing is.. it isn’t necessarily bad. The plot just took a back seat to everything else. The romance, character development and world building were the primary focus. The character development was pretty good, but I don’t feel extremely attached to the characters. The world building on the other hand, was great. The descriptions are so vivid and fascinating. At times I was reminded of Holly Black, but honestly her books are way better, so this pales in comparison.
The plot moved really slow and didn’t become a focus until the end of the novel. The majority of the story felt like filler to develop the characters and the world. It was kind of a Beauty and the Beast retelling, but with faeries. I have heard that the next book is way better, but I don’t see myself returning to this world anytime soon.
I loved this series!! Probably because my all time favorite movie is beauty and the beast.

I have the same opinions on this book. It was too slow and I found myself putting it down a lot. Took me a month to finish it, but I think I’ll still give the next books a chance. Might just settle for borrowing it from the library though.
